These points include her thinking about the gender role, family and relationships between a husband and wife.Although this poem was written in the mid-twentieth century, it is still currently important and can be interesting for our contemporary society as well.
Langdell, this poem reflects thoughts about herself and woman that is in general characteristic of her later feminist work (26). The society of the authors time where all the people were patriarchally oriented influenced her considerably and intensified the desire to live another way. The words such as prance, topaz, sleek, denizen and several more in this poem imply the conditions the women had to live in during that period and the attitude to the female part of society. Thats exactly why the first stanza starts with a special tapestry of the tigers made by Aunt Jennifer. The lines open us an image of great tigers who are found in the jungle and are not afraid any other creatures. Adrienne used very rich attributes to evoke the right picture and signify the power of a person with her own ambitions, wishes, and inner world. ![]() This different image was created in the second stanza describing her side of weakness, foible, and the environment of a certain slavery for a woman. Through the last lines, we discover her depleted mental and physical state and the trauma she got there. ![]() Aunt Jennifer'S Tigers Free Spirit InsideThis sad situation only means that Aunt Jennifer had a huge free spirit inside, but she did not have an opportunity to make it relaxed because of the patriarchal state of mind among people. Actually, as we see she couldnt find freedom even when the death came, as her terrible hands will lie still ringed with ordeals (Keyes 22) she wanted to finish and left as a piece of art, but that perfect work with tigers that finally helped her to go as well as her desire to be free, will live forever, so courageous and proud. This whole creation and building of proper lines depict the core idea of the urgent topic the role of women in the society, their importance, and incomprehensible nature.
